Top 10 Pro Wrestling Entrances of All Time

Written by: Steven R Slam

10. Honky Tonk Man

How could I not list someone that sang his own theme song? After all, he was cool, cocky, bad.

9. Bryan Danielson

I get it, most of you don’t know who Bryan Danielson is. He’s one of the best wrestlers in the world (trained by Shawn Michaels) and recently signed a WWE contract. Prior to that he was in Ring of Honor (ROH) where he came out to “The Final Countdown”. The music fit him perfectly, and the crowd loved every second of it. Right before the chorus he’d go to the corner, climb the turnbuckle, and the entire crowd would sing the song. It was a sight to see

8. “Stone Cold” Steve Austin

The glass breaking could only mean one thing – business was about to pick up. Steve’s theme really matched his personality as did the attitude as he walked to the ring, raised each hand in the air at every turnbuckle and raised his two middle fingers.

7. Ultimate Warrior

In the late 80s/early 90s the Warrior’s entrance was one of my favorite. The fast music, the Warrior running to the ring and the shaking of the ropes were enough to get anyone pumped up.

6. Shawn Michaels

Shawn Michaels has used “Sexy Boy” since 1992. Granted the theme doesn’t really match his current lifestyle/character but I’ll be damned if the theme and entrance still aren’t amazing. It is a little weird though to see him pray to God as the lyrics “I think I’m cute, I know I’m sexy” plays.

5. “Macho Man” Randy Savage

Any wrestling fan that has ever attended a graduation knows this one. At my 12th grade graduation I wanted to shout “Ohhhhhh Yea” and snap into a Slim Jim. Macho walks to the ring with a certain grace with his robe and mannerisms that truly made him a star.

4. “Nature Boy” Ric Flair

Whoooooooooooooooooooo! When “Also Sprach Zarathustra” hit it meant Ric Flair was coming out. The theme matches his flamboyant personality and along with Hogan’s theme is one of the most recognizable.

3. The Sandman

“Enter Sandman” was meant for the Sandman. 5 minutes and 31 seconds long, Sandman’s entrance lasted the entire song. He’s come to the ring with a cigarette in his mouth, a Singapore can in one hand, and one (or more) beer cans in his other hand. He’d drink a beer, spilling it all over the place (and on fans) and then would smash the can on his forehead – causing his forehead to bleed – before the match even started. Oh and did I mention he’d do all this while walking through the crowd?

2. Hulk Hogan

Hulk Hogan’s theme “Real American” still makes me jump for joy like a little child. It’s possibly one of the most recognizable theme songs in wrestling, and was recently used in an episode of “Always Sunny in Philadelphia”. Hulk came to the ring with charisma and intensity. When he finally got in the ring, he ripped his shirt off and the crowd went wild.

1. The Undertaker
I’ve been on hand for many live wrestling events, and nothing can compare to when the Undertaker comes out. The lights go out, blue fog fills the arena, and the bells toll. Undertaker walks to the ring slowly and deliberately. Its impossible not to get goosebumps as he walks to the ring. If you’re lucky and it’s a special event, like Wrestlemania, there might be druids carrying flaming torches to the ring as well. Wrestlamania 20 is my favorite Undertaker entrance ever and shown below.

Honorable Mention: DX, nWo, Big Bossman, The Brood/Gangrel/, and Goldust.

What about Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin??? Sharp Dressed Man was perfect for his ring walk with the way he strutted down the ramp and into the ring

  2. Steven R Slam says:

I agree Gorgeous Jimmy had a great entrance. I also can’t believe I left off the Fabulous Freebirds.

  3. Fidoohki says:

What about the Road warriors? When they came out to Black Sabbath’s “Iron man” IT was awesome!

  4. Dave M says:

How could you leave off The Fabulous Freebirds coming into Lynard Skynard. You can tell that the dude that compiled the list hasnt been watching wrestling very long.

  5. Mike says:

Where is HHH? His entrance to Motorhead is betterthan Honky’s by far.

  6. Mike says:

Steve, you call yourself a wrestling fan??? How about:

    1. The Fabulous Freebirds
    2. The Road Warriors (AWA era)
    3. Dusty Rhodes (both as himself and The Midnight Rider, mid to late 80s NWA)
    4. Jim Cornette & The Midnight Express
    5. The Crusher & Dick the Bruiser (any era!)

  7. Steve says:

Way more epic than a thousand idiots singing the Final Countdown.

  8. Jeez says:

Sounds like you’re in your early 20’s or just very stunted developmentally. You seem to be limited to your experience as a child WWF mark, and as an active internet fan in your teens, and now you post this. Posting ROH amidst 9 WWE songs does not make you a “wrestling fan”. Just a tip, there is more wrestling in this world other than WWE. But I guess when you’re under the impression that wrestling was “tiny smoke filled dark arenas”, and wrestling wasn’t popular until the WWF showed up, I guess this list is what we can expect. I’m sure Vince McMahon would be proud of your list.

  9. Ninth Delegate says:

Some of the comments above seem more focused on the music than the actual entrance. I would have to put more consideration to the pyro and the movement of the wrestler.

Goldberg standing in the middle of his pyro.

Sting being lowered by cable to the ring.

Eddie guerrero in his bouncing car.

Great Muta (his more recent japan matches were he rises from the ramp and rips through a rubber sheet).

Rey Mysterio bursting through the stage.

  10. scott whitt says:

Freebirds are the most obvious one missing along wit the Von Erichs in Dallas. When you heard “Stranglehold” the places went apesh@t. The entrance wasn’t fancy but the arena was in a total frenzy.
Also, Jeez seems to condemn you without offering any suggestions, making him a bigger douche than he thinks you are. Plus he calls you a WWF mark, if you grew up in the North you had to be, but then gets the fact wrong. Flair will always be associated with NWA and Sandman ECW.

  11. Steven R Slam says:

@Jeez- definitely not “stumped developmentally”. I’m in my mid-20s. I know a lot more than “wwe”. I haven’t missed an ROH show in NYC since 2004. I also went to many “original ECW” shows. What choices would you like to have seen?

@ Dave M – Freebird using Skynard was good, but unfortunately, I don’t think most wrestling fans would know unless they followed the Texas/southern promotions.

@ Mike – I can’t believe I left off the Midnight Express. Everything was great about their entrance. Using the theme from the movie of the same title, and the way jim cornette introduced the midnights and then the way they’d intro Jim. I just read “the 25th anniversary of the Midnight Express” book and I’d recommend it to anyone.

@ Scott- Similar to the freebirds, I wasn’t very familiar with the Von Erich/ World Class stuff. I’ve seen plenty of tapes since, but it doesn’t have the same connection with me as a lot of the WWF themes did.

I can’t wait to see how you guys react to my next column – “Wrestler of the Decade”

  20. A good authentic NBA jersey isn’t cheap, but there are ways to get wholesale nfl jerseys with good quality. Sometimes there is no need to spend a large fortune for a NBA jersey, when you could get a marvelous cheap NBA jersey with the similar characters. They are also comfortable, with good ventilation, offering you a fashion look.
