Just when I thought I couldn’t be any more excited for baseball season, I logged onto my brand spanking new Bloomberg Sports account.

When I first heard that Bloomberg was delving into the wild world of fantasy baseball, it sounded a little suspect.  They’ve always been a company synonymous with the parts of the newspaper that I never read.  What the heck do they know about baseball analytics and all the other things that those of us who start the newspaper from the back page care about?

A lot, as it turns out.  The Bloomberg sports tool seems to be so good that I was almost hesitant to write this article. I was planning on hiding it from the other members of my fantasy league, just to get an edge.  (I always lose by a lot. Sue me.)  What Bloomberg has done with this tool is given users the easiest way to track and compare your fantasy players with other players in the league.  The data comes straight from MLB.com and even incorporates their pitch f/x feature.  Sure, Mark Teixeira can straight up mash, but has he been able to do it against Zack Greinke?  It would take endless hours and probably several reprimands from your boss to figure that one out, but now in a minute, you can figure out if you should start Tex against the Royals.

And even if you’re not so into fantasy baseball, they’ve managed to compile a seemingly endless list of statistics and real time news, perfect for arguments with pompous Yankee fans at your local bar.  That’s how I plan to use it, after all.  Once Joe Nathan recovers from his latest series of tests, I will be able to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that none of those Bombers can touch him.
