Man of the Week – Charlie Whitehurst

Written by: Valerie Shea

You are probably wondering “Who the hell is Charlie Whitehurst??” and I can’t blame you. Even I had no idea he existed until a few days ago, but I am happy to now know that he walks the earth. For the last four NFL seasons Charlie has been the #3 quarterback for the San Diego Chargers, and he’s never thrown a pass in the regular season. Oh well, at least he has his good looks and a shiny new 2 year, $10 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks.

Just last week the Chargers traded Whitehurst to Seattle where he’ll compete with Matt Hasselbeck for the starting position. Hasselbeck hasn’t been able to avoid injuries lately, so odds are Whitehurst will see regular season action at some point this year, and I can’t wait to watch him go. Charlie played college ball for the Clemson Tigers, and he’s yet another NFL legacy player. His father David Whitehurst is best known as quarterback for the Green Bay Packers from 1977-1983.

I have three tips to help Charlie through this next NFL season.

1. Lose the hair.
2. Keep the beard.
3. SMILE!

Rest in Peace – Mosi Tatupu

Written by: Valerie Shea

NFL veteran Mosi Tatupu died Tuesday at the age of 54. The cause is unknown at this time, but he had been suffering from high blood pressure and other ailments. Mosi Tatupu was a beloved fullback for the New England Patriots for 12 seasons, and he played briefly for the St. Louis Rams. His son Lofa Tatupu is currently a Pro Bowl linebacker for the Seattle Seahawks.

Mosi Tatupu is known as one of the most talented and successful athletes to ever come out of Hawaii. He was a USC Trojan who played in the 1978 Hula Bowl. From 1997-2006, the Mosi Tatupu award was given to the College Football Special Teams Player of the Year. He will be missed by his friends, family, former coaches and teammates, and the NFL community. Rest in peace.
