There was a fast pace, strong goaltending, and exciting game that kept us on the edge of our seats from opening puck drop to overtime winner. Finns Win Bronze

Fresh off their embarrassing 6-1 loss in the semi finals to Team USA, Team Finland rebounded nicely in the bronze medal game last night, defeating Team Slovakia to win the Bronze medal. The Finns showed some tremendous poise, netting four goals in the third period to erase a 3-1 deficit to win 5-3.

The comeback was led by Rangers center Olli Jokinen, who scored two goals two minutes apart. These goals tied the game, and then gave the Finns the lead for good. Valtteri Filppula added an empty netter to seal the deal for the Finns. (more…)

Team USA Will Play For Gold

The game between Team USA and Finland was over 12 minutes after it started. The Americans came out strong, using their speed and relentless forecheck to cause turnovers, cause mistakes, and draw penalties.

The first, and possibly biggest, mistake came courtesy of Finnish netminder Mikka Kiprusoff, who came 40 feet out of the net to play the puck away from a streaking Phil Kessel, only to give it right to Ryan Malone and an empty net. Dustin Brown followed this up by drawing an interference penalty, which the Americans quickly capitalized on. A beautiful feed from Paul Stastny to Zach Parise made the game 2-0. (more…)

Man of the Week – Ryan Kesler

Team USA Hockey has been the talk of the nation this week with their stunning win over Canada at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. The win gives Team USA the #1 seed moving forward, and a great shot at a gold medal. Anyone who saw or heard about the game probably knows that goalie Ryan Miller, who plays for the Buffalo Sabres during the NHL season, was the absolute star of the game. He stopped 42 of Canada’s 45 shots on goal and pretty much stole the game for the USA. Ryan Miller would be our man of the week except for the fact that he’s just not sexy. I’m sorry, but I have a reputation to uphold. I bring you only the hottest AND most talented athletes each week. (more…)
